Of the many good reasons to oppose assisted-suicide is that doctors are not infallible and along with the rest of human society, have biases against disability and persons with disabilities. No profession is immune to incompetency, human error and prejudices and the medical community is no different. The story of Michael Hickson and his family highlights why so many people are skeptical when pro-assisted suicide and pro-euthanasia advocates rely on the integrity of doctors to dismiss reasonable concerns about state-endorsed suicide. We join Mr. Hickson’s family in grieving for their loss and are glad they have found legal counsel to pursue all legitimate claims.
